These Terms of Service ("Terms") form a binding agreement between you and Edge LLC ("Edge LLC"), the operator of the Smart Envelope AI mobile application (the "App"). By downloading, installing, or using the App, you agree to these Terms, the Smart Envelope AI Privacy Policy, the End User License Agreement for the App, and Apple's standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement. If you do not agree, do not use the App.
Edge LLC may update these Terms from time to time. Edge LLC will post the revised Terms with a new "Last Updated" date and, where the law requires, provide additional notice. Your continued use of the App after the effective date of a change means you accept the revised Terms.
Smart Envelope AI is a personal budgeting app for iPhone. The App uses an on-device-first design. Your financial information, including your transactions, balances, and budgets, stays on your iPhone where possible. Edge LLC does not operate a server-side database of your financial activity, does not connect to your bank, and does not sell your information.
You can enter transactions three ways. You can capture a receipt photo using the "Snap" feature. You can speak an entry using the "Speak" feature. You can type an entry using the "Type" feature.
You must be at least 18 years old and able to form a binding contract to use the App. The App is intended for adults and is not directed to children under 13. By using the App, you confirm that you meet these requirements.
You obtain the App through the Apple App Store. Your license to use the App is also governed by Apple's standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement, available at apple.com/legal/internet-services/itunes/dev/stdeula, as supplemented by the custom End User License Agreement for the App. If a conflict exists between these Terms and a mandatory term of Apple's standard EULA, Apple's standard EULA governs for that subject.
Apple handles billing, subscription management, renewals, cancellations, refunds where applicable, and your payment information through the App Store. Edge LLC does not process your payment and does not receive your card number. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms and may enforce them against you.
The App is offered on a paid subscription. The subscription costs $4.99 per month, plus applicable taxes, and includes a 14-day free trial for new subscribers. The subscription continues until you cancel. These auto-renewal terms are disclosed to meet Illinois and California automatic renewal laws.
Automatic renewal. Your subscription renews automatically each month at $4.99 unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Apple charges the renewal to your App Store payment method within 24 hours before the period ends. You consent to these renewal terms when you confirm the subscription purchase in the App Store, and Apple provides a purchase confirmation that you can keep.
Free trial. The 14-day free trial converts to a paid monthly subscription at $4.99 unless you cancel before the trial ends. If you start a free trial and do not cancel before it ends, Apple will charge you $4.99 for the first paid month. To avoid the charge, cancel at least 24 hours before the trial ends.
Cancellation. You can cancel at any time on your iPhone. Open Settings, tap your name, tap Subscriptions, select Smart Envelope AI, and cancel. You can complete the entire cancellation on your device without contacting Edge LLC or Apple support. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period, and access continues until then. To avoid the next renewal charge, cancel at least 24 hours before the current period ends.
Refunds. Apple handles refunds under Apple's policies. Send refund requests to Apple, not to Edge LLC.
Price changes. Edge LLC may change the subscription price. Edge LLC or Apple will give you advance notice of the new price and how to cancel before the change takes effect, and a price change applies only after the notice period and, where required, your consent. If you do not accept the new price, you can cancel before the change takes effect.
You agree to use the App only for lawful, personal, non-commercial purposes. You also agree to the following.
The App stores your transactions, budgets, balances, receipt photos, and settings on your iPhone. If you turn on iCloud Photos or iCloud Backup, Apple may sync copies to your iCloud account under your control. Edge LLC does not have access to your iCloud account. You are responsible for keeping your device secure and for backing up your data. Uninstalling the App removes the data stored on your device.
You own your receipt photos and the other content you create in the App ("User Content"). Edge LLC does not claim ownership of your User Content.
To provide the receipt-scanning feature, you grant Edge LLC a limited, non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to transmit and process each receipt photo you choose to submit, for the sole purpose of extracting transaction data and returning the result to your iPhone. This license is limited to that purpose and ends when the processing for that photo is complete.
How the processing works. When you use "Snap," the App sends the receipt photo over an encrypted HTTPS connection to a server that Edge LLC operates on Cloudflare Workers. That server forwards the image to Anthropic, PBC, which provides the Claude API. Anthropic extracts the merchant, amount, date, and a suggested category and returns that text to your iPhone.
Retention. The image is not stored on the Cloudflare Worker. Under Anthropic's standard API terms in effect at the time of these Terms, content sent to the Claude API is deleted from Anthropic's systems within 30 days of processing, unless a longer period is required by law or to enforce Anthropic's usage policy, and is not used to train Anthropic's models. Edge LLC does not have a Zero Data Retention agreement with Anthropic, so this 30-day window applies. Edge LLC does not store the image on any server it operates.
Edge LLC does not receive broader rights in your User Content than the limited processing license described above.
When you use "Speak," the App uses the browser-based Web Speech API in WebKit on iOS. This method sends your voice recording off the device to Apple's WebKit speech recognition service for transcription. Edge LLC does not receive, record, or retain the raw audio and receives only the transcribed text. If you prefer that your voice not leave your device, use the "Type" feature instead.
Edge LLC and its licensors own the App and all related software, designs, text, graphics, logos, and other materials, except for your User Content. Edge LLC grants you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to use the App on Apple-branded devices that you own or control, as allowed by the Usage Rules in the Apple Media Services Terms and Conditions and Apple's standard EULA. You may not copy, modify, distribute, sell, or create derivative works from the App except as the law allows.
The App relies on services from Apple, Cloudflare, and Anthropic. Each provider operates under its own terms and privacy practices. Edge LLC does not control those providers and is not responsible for their acts or omissions. Your use of the App through these providers is subject to their applicable terms.
Edge LLC may release updates, bug fixes, or new versions of the App. Some updates may be required for the App to keep working. The App Store may deliver updates under your device settings. Edge LLC may add, change, or remove features at any time.
The App is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind. To the fullest extent the law allows, Edge LLC disclaims all warranties, express or implied, including the implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. Edge LLC does not warrant that the App will be uninterrupted, error-free, or free of harmful components, or that the results from receipt scanning or voice transcription will be accurate or complete. You are responsible for reviewing and correcting the data the App produces. Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of implied warranties, so part of this section may not apply to you.
Smart Envelope AI is a budgeting tool for general informational and organizational use only. Edge LLC is not a financial adviser, investment adviser, accountant, or tax professional, and the App does not provide financial, investment, tax, accounting, or legal advice. You are responsible for your own financial decisions and for consulting a qualified professional before acting on any information the App provides.
TO THE FULLEST EXTENT THE LAW ALLOWS, EDGE LLC WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR EXEMPLARY DAMAGES, INCLUDING LOSS OF DATA, LOSS OF PROFITS, OR BUSINESS INTERRUPTION, ARISING OUT OF OR RELATING TO THE APP, UNDER ANY THEORY OF LIABILITY, EVEN IF EDGE LLC HAS BEEN ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES. TO THE FULLEST EXTENT THE LAW ALLOWS, THE TOTAL LIABILITY OF EDGE LLC FOR ALL CLAIMS ARISING OUT OF OR RELATING TO THE APP OR THESE TERMS WILL NOT EXCEED THE GREATER OF THE AMOUNT YOU PAID EDGE LLC FOR THE APP IN THE 12 MONTHS BEFORE THE CLAIM OR TWENTY-FIVE DOLLARS ($25). NOTHING IN THESE TERMS LIMITS LIABILITY THAT THE LAW DOES NOT ALLOW TO BE LIMITED, INCLUDING LIABILITY FOR FRAUD, WILLFUL MISCONDUCT, OR GROSS NEGLIGENCE.
To the extent the law allows, you agree to indemnify and hold harmless Edge LLC and its members, officers, and agents from any third-party claim arising out of your misuse of the App, your breach of these Terms, your violation of any law, or your submission of content you did not have the right to submit, including reasonable attorneys' fees and costs.
You may stop using the App and cancel your subscription at any time. Edge LLC may suspend or end your access to the App if you breach these Terms or if the law requires. Sections that by their nature should survive termination will survive, including intellectual property, disclaimers, limitation of liability, indemnification, governing law, and dispute resolution.
Edge LLC provides support by email at ed@edge-llc.net. Apple has no obligation to provide support or maintenance for the App.
Edge LLC may revise these Terms as described in Section 1. Material changes will be communicated through the App or on the website at smartenvelope.app.
The laws of the State of Illinois govern these Terms, without regard to conflict-of-laws rules. Subject to Section 21, the state and federal courts located in Cook County, Illinois have exclusive jurisdiction over any matter not subject to arbitration.
Please read this section carefully. It affects how you resolve disputes with Edge LLC.
Informal resolution first. Before starting mediation or arbitration, you and Edge LLC agree to try to resolve any dispute informally. Send a written description of the dispute to ed@edge-llc.net and allow 30 days for a response.
Mediation. If the dispute is not resolved within 30 days, you and Edge LLC agree to submit it to non-binding mediation before a single mediator, administered by a recognized mediation provider, seated in Cook County, Illinois or held by videoconference. You and Edge LLC will share the mediator's fees equally, unless the law provides otherwise.
Binding arbitration. If mediation does not resolve the dispute within 60 days after the mediation request, the dispute will be resolved by binding individual arbitration administered by the American Arbitration Association under its Consumer Arbitration Rules. The arbitration will take place in Cook County, Illinois or by videoconference at your option. The Federal Arbitration Act governs this section. The arbitrator's award may be entered as a judgment in any court with jurisdiction.
Class action waiver. You and Edge LLC agree that each may bring claims against the other only in an individual capacity, and not in a class, consolidated, or representative action. If this waiver is found unenforceable for a claim, that claim will proceed in court, and the rest of this section still applies to all other claims.
Exceptions. Either party may bring a claim in small claims court if it qualifies. Either party may seek injunctive or equitable relief in court to protect intellectual property or to prevent irreparable harm pending mediation or arbitration.
Opt-out. You may opt out of this arbitration agreement and class action waiver by sending written notice to ed@edge-llc.net within 30 days of your first use of the App. Your notice must include your name, the Apple Account email used for the App, and a clear statement that you opt out. Opting out does not affect the other parts of these Terms.
Entire agreement. These Terms, the Privacy Policy, the custom EULA, and Apple's standard EULA are the entire agreement between you and Edge LLC about the App and replace any prior understanding.
Severability. If any part of these Terms is unenforceable, the rest stays in effect, and the unenforceable part is limited to the least extent necessary.
No waiver. If Edge LLC does not enforce a provision, that is not a waiver.
Assignment. You may not assign these Terms without Edge LLC's consent. Edge LLC may assign these Terms to an affiliate or successor.
